This little comedy I’ve discovered by accident and once I started watching it there was really just one scene I think the humor has got too far, so that and a bunch of reasons below are why its rating is as low as it is.
Confess Fletch is just your usual crime comedy with not a very sophisticated but resourceful and witty main protagonist who solves the case by sheer luck and a little bit of brain. Jon Hamm is absolutely stunning though in his portrayal of Fletcher and I was blown away by some of his mannerisms throughout the movie. Besides him the only other actor whose character was indeed alive was Roy Wood Jr’s sergeant Monroe, all the rest of the cast underperformed in this and that disappointing degree.
I know that there were two other Fletch movies shot in 1980s and starring Chevy Chase and I guess I should have watched them beforehand because while watching I had that feeling like the titular character was written in a way like we ought to have known him already but it neither made me want to watch those two movies nor say anything more in favor of this one.
This is an ordinary, plain comedy with not so much comedy in it but rather a couple of great jokes that stood out above the mediocre narrative, half-shallow characters that we couldn’t really empathize with and weird pieces of dialogues those characters exchanged but non-stop action, some truly eloquent jokes and grand charisma of Jon Hamm has made this movie an easy one to sit through and enjoy most of.
