What New Movie to Watch?

Best Review:

When you get to the point of fully understanding things, you begin to see the meaninglessness of being, especially in the cartoon universe.

If the cartoon series “Rick and Morty” showed how a person from one universe suffers from the understanding of universal meaninglessness on the example of the observation and life experience, imagine what would be the consciousness that is in many universes at the same time and saw all kinds of events of its own existence. So we get the antagonist of the movie “Everything is everywhere at once”. Consciousness spread across multiple universes, able to exist everywhere and transform any of the realities at once in the likeness of another. A consciousness that transcends the boundaries of good and evil, allowed and forbidden. A lonely, sad, helpless consciousness that knows the meaninglessness of existence. What can such a being strive for? Only to try to find someone who will see the world in the same light.

Such a person is the main character of the film. She is opposed to the conditional darkness. Her relationship to it changes from chapter to chapter. The more the heroine becomes like her antagonist, the more she understands him, herself and the world around her.

The whole film boils down, in my opinion, to one simple thing: if there is no meaning in life, why look for it when you can just go on existing for moments of joy? This is the difference between the heroine, who focuses on the joys and wrongs of life, and the antagonist, who seeks meaning in total oblivion as the final path to knowing the world.

The film is divided into chapters.

Everything is the reality in which the protagonist lives, or rather her original form of consciousness, inseparable so far from her body, having a view of the world of one universe as all things. This universe consists of a series of failures, work, family, taxes, obligations.

Everywhere is a multiplicity of realities in which consciousness, while still connected to the original universe and its original corporeal form, can be found. Here consciousness becomes an observer of other universes in which the heroine’s consciousness exists, of possible life choices, of right and wrong decisions, here consciousness is still attached to the original universe.

At the same time, the multiverse is chaotic and unpredictable. Anything conceivable and unthinkable already exists. Every action has happened or is happening. As are actions impossible in a single universe, but possible when the forms and images of one universe seep into another. It is at once.

So, going through all three stages, the heroine and antagonist reach forms of stone, having a dialogue about human lives, about what is right, wrong, well, and about how nothing makes sense.

And if that’s the case, why not just move on?

Besides the main theme, the film also discusses such themes as the problem of self-realization of a person on the example of the main heroine, the problem of interpersonal relations in a family, including intergenerational relations, raises questions of sexual orientation, etc.

This film tries to be as multifaceted as a multiverse can be, with all its unlikely but happening things, like eating lipstick or shoving an office figurine up your ass. The fusion of possible cultures, knowledge, and history make it possible to show everything in all sorts of manifestations, everything encapsulated in one multifaceted picture.

Because of the multifacetedness that the film shows through the prism of the protagonist through all sorts of universes, this film really is everything everywhere at once.

I would also like to note the visual and auditory component of the picture. The bright, saturated colors, grotesque imagery and Debussy’s music combine to give something incredible on the level of feeling. It makes you watch the film in the same breath, allowing you to forget yourself in the multiverse of this picture.
